Whilst carrying out an Admirals inspection off Portland, in, I believe, 1965, we struck the submerged submarine "Tiptoe" I was director officer at the time- a strange job for an OA- but one that I enjoyed. I really thought that the director gear boxes had developed a defect as the director shook terribly. The shaking caused me to look around the ship from my lofty position, and suddenly up popped the dented submarine by our stern, imagine the surprise! We shipped, as I remember 400 tons of water, and It gave us a considerable list to Starboard. Fortunately no one was hurt, but I believe the "Tiptoe's crew all had to change their trousers!! It did give us a few weeks holiday in dry dock at "Guzz"
