Robert Colborn

while onboard Yarmouth we did a tour of fish protection up the ice ,and was on duty on the bridge as bosuns-mate when we collided with Icelandic gunboat thor .we were trying to keep the thor from getting across in front of us when without warning the thor altered coarse and cut us up in no uncertain terms ,immediately the skipper ordered three blasts on the fog horn wheel hard over and engine to full astern but to no avail we collided ,my thoughts were clear no time even to bend and do what come natural just hang on for dear life itself but on reflection I often wonder what was going on in the minds of the rating who were down below deck, as I could see what did unfold, I did not no the extent of the damage until we arrived back in our home base in Rosyth and thank my lucky stars that ! Yarmouth without any bows and the professionalism of the rest of the crew got us all home safely and to them I am eternally grateful
