It was the 9th of May 1982, and we all know where we are, I was walking past the Master-at-arms office, and he said to me congratulations, I looked at him in puzzlement (the only way to look at a master-at-arms). When I asked him what I had done, he handed me a copy of the News of the World, in a small section of the newspaper, there was a story about my wife giving birth to my son, the head line was " A Son For A Navy Man But He Doesn't Know It Yet". My son was born on the 2nd of May but due to signal traffic being kept, I didn't find out until the master told me. Well me and Gordon Hope, Danny Melville tanned the beer fridge, Les Hubbard gave us some pizza, (I think it was pizza) I don't know how we got away with it but if the Crazy Y got hit that night we would never have felt a thing. After a couple of days later we got mail a bluey and in it was a photo of my son.
