Richard 'Rick' 'Luther' Bisset G’Day Ray, Let me begin by introducing myself. I am Richard ‘Rick” Bisset, known to all as “Luther” during my two years of service in YARMOUTH. I was a LMEM(M) when she was decommissioned in 86, having joined her prior to the West Indies Guard Ship deployment in ’84. I was there during the final Freedom of Entry visit to Great Yarmouth, and to London in ’86. To cut along story short, two years later in 1988, I discharged from the RN and joined the RAN, where I continue to serve as a Warrant Officer Marine Technician in HMAS MELBOURNE (FFG-05) a Guided missile Frigate. It is therefore with much regret, that I am unable to attend such a prestigious event, as the annual re-union. I was in the UK earlier this year, to catch up with immediate family and friends, but the timing unfortunately fell directly between the Rosyth re-union, and this one. My ties with RN, and indeed my old shipmates are as strong today as they were back then. If my ships’ operational commitments allow, I intend to make it my goal to attend a reunion sometime next year. I would like to pass on my personal thanks to you and Dusty for keeping the website alive. As far as I am aware, YARMOUTH is the only ship I have served in that has it’s own website for ex-serving members. Lots of fond memories coupled with plenty of characters, come flooding back when I view the pictures and see the names on the crew lists. Keep up the sterling work, it is appreciated, especially ‘down under’. I sincerely hope the re-union is a resounding success, REX ET JURA NOSTRA… Fair winds and following seas… Yours very respectfully, WOMT Rick Bisset, CSC |
