Day
One - Friday DTS |
|
The weekend began in the bar of
the Llandoger Trow with a few shipmates having a nice quiet
few wets as more shippers arrived from both Yarmouth and
Danae and in true DTS style it continued well into the early
evening and around 1800 it became obvious that many had to
leg it to get ready for the 1900 evening start. |
|
Friday Evening |
|
The Evening
got off to a good start and many turned up wearing Polo Shirts
with either Yarmouth or Dane Ships
Crest over the the left
breast, with the exception of yours truly with a huge black
cat having had a Polo Shirt with BOTH ships crest displayed,
having served on both ships I could not necessarily favour
one, and in typical matelot style many there stoked my chest
and mutter something like 'blackcattintwat'.
Ships Company's got on very well and all including wives and
partners were seen to be enjoying the occasion
with the wine, beer and spirits disappearing down necks like
it was the last bar in town. At this point I must apologise
for some of the photos taken over the weekend as my camera
was shiters. Colin Cameron (Yarmouth)
produced a bottle and organised a £1 a tot with proceeds to
charity, needless to say the bottle last but a few seconds.
Chin wagging and sing songs followed only to be brought to
an abrupt end by the almost invisible bar staff and bouncer
that obviously loved his job and didn't realise or possible care that if it wasn't for customers like us he
wouldn't have a job............. twat. |
|
Unperturbed we vacated the
Famous Royal Naval Volunteer never to return and visited the
hostelry directly opposite where our sheckles were as good
as all others and oodles of the golden nectar was duly
consumed. The locals were quite friendly even to the degree
that a young female personage was not put off by being asked if
she would like to view the nether regions of a Danae crew
member. Me being a fine upstanding rating turned away from
such behaviour and visited the heads, during which time
whilst draining the tanks the said female personage along
with another of similar bearing came into the heads sat down
and vented her tanks without so much as a by your leave,
muttering something about too long a queue in the Ladies. |
|
From there it was big eats and home for
me, although others did continue on, and Sooty Sutcliffe having
tried several times to tap in his access code to his digs in a brick
someway away from the actual panel, was assisted by a huge Canadian
Sailor, who asked if he was alright, Sooty replied I feel a bit
under the weather (Shiters) .............. In all a great day and a
good practice for Saturday. |
|
Day Two - Saturday Evening |
This evening started at 1800
when I was able to pick up the HMS Yarmouth perry buoy cover
from
Dicky Davies (Danae) who's time and effort in organising
this made it possible to have both Ships Covers prominently
displayed at the entrance to the venue, and they looked the
dogs b*****ks..... It is hoped that the Perry Bouy and its
Cover will be at the entrance to all future reunion venues..
and when a joint venture with the Danae both will be on
display ........... A big thank you to Dicky for making this
possible. |
|
The main event started at 1900
at the Flying Fox with most arriving at that time although
Trixie Treece (Yarmouth & Danae) and his party found the
only the rag head cab driver in Bristol that had to ask for
directions. |
|
The Food - A Cold Fork Buffet
was excellent and plentiful with many having seconds
especially the figgy duff. Paul Bissett MC'd the event with
his dulcet Scottish tone ringing in our ears throughout the
raffle and the auction of 3 bottles, the 1st was a bottle of
Woods won by Sooty Sutcliffe (Yarmouth) with a bid of
£56, the 2nd a Bottle of Pussers won By Buck Rodgers
(Danae) with a bid of £80, and the 3rd a Bottle of Snow
Grouse won by Carl guest of Jimmy Hodgson (Danae) with a
bid of £50. Prizes for the Raffle, Auction and £1 a tot were
generously donated by members or both Crews and all proceeds
will be donated to Help For Heroes. |
|
Much supping and dancing took
place and the Danae boys Jimmy Hodgson, Dave Power and Jim
Davies were to the fore dancing with each other or on their
own not giving a monkies that it is usual to dance with the
ladies................ Jack being Jack I suppose. |
|
The only criticism I have (if it
is one) is that the beer was not on draught, however the "tinnies"
were endless and at the right temperature to throw down the
neck and at cheap prices, then of course the inevitable tot
of Pussers almost every time I attempted to buy a
drink. |
|
The end of the evening came and
farewells were said and promises made to do it all again,
the invites up homers to Spain and France will get serious
consideration. and to Tracey Bissett thank you very much, of
course we'll drop in when we are passing California. |
|
THANK YOU TO ALL OF
YOU |
